About Acres4Change

Acres4Change (A4C) is a mission-driven nonprofit committed to increasing land access and ownership for historically marginalized BIPOC farmers in Baltimore. Through our flagship Stewardship Program, we provide hands-on training, leadership development, and a pathway to cooperative land ownership. Our indoor mushroom farm, Charm City Caps, serves as both a learning lab and a revenue-generating enterprise that supports our long-term goal of community-led food sovereignty.

Position Overview

The Stewardship Program Manager will lead the day-to-day coordination and execution of A4C’s Stewardship Program (15-20 hrs/week) and support operations, marketing, and sales at Charm City Caps Mushroom Farm (5-10 hrs/week). This role is ideal for a highly organized, community-centered leader with experience in program management, food systems, and social impact work. You’ll support a cohort of Stewards, collaborate with interns and volunteers, and help grow the visibility and impact of our mushroom farm.

Key Responsibilities

Stewardship Program (15-20 hours/week)

  • Manage program documentation: onboarding forms, schedules, timesheets, evaluations, and grant reports.

  • Facilitate weekly Steward check-ins and team meetings.

  • Coordinate speakers, field trips, and other educational opportunities aligned with the curriculum.

  • Oversee recruitment, interviews, onboarding, and orientation for Stewards, interns, and volunteers.

  • Offer mentorship and logistical support to Stewards and alumni in their land search, site development, and cooperative planning.

  • Compile and submit data, narratives, and surveys for grant proposals and reports.

  • Attend A4C staff meetings and represent A4C at Farm Alliance of Baltimore monthly meetings.

  • Upload photos, videos, and media content to the A4C shared drive for communications and outreach.

  • Perform other duties as needed to support organizational capacity and growth.

Charm City Caps Mushroom Farm (5-10 hours/week)

  • Support weekly cultivation shifts and farm operations in collaboration with Stewards.

  • Work closely with the Mushroom Farm Manager to ensure smooth production, quality control, and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Assist in managing mushroom inventory and shift schedules.

  • Coordinate and support sales and marketing efforts, including managing product listings, developing promotional materials, and sharing updates via social media and newsletters.

  • Represent A4C at farmers’ markets and pop-up events; coordinate sales staffing and logistics as needed.

  • Collect and maintain data on sales and customer feedback for continuous improvement.

Desired Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience managing educational, workforce, or community-based programs.

  • Strong facilitation and supervisory skills; experience working with students and volunteers.

  • Working knowledge of sustainable agriculture and food systems (mushroom farming a plus).

  • Familiarity with farmers’ markets, direct sales, and food-based social enterprises.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proficiency in digital tools: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Drive, spreadsheets, email marketing platforms, Canva, and social media.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Deep alignment with A4C’s mission and values, particularly around racial equity, land justice, and economic self-determination.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle.

  • Must reside in Baltimore City or within a 30-minute drive (approximately 20 miles) of the city.

Acres4Change (A4C) is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating land ownership opportunities for underserved BIPOC farmers through agricultural training, hands-on production experience, and business development. Our mushroom farm, Charm City Caps, is both a training hub and a revenue generator — growing fresh mushrooms, producing value-added products, and fostering community food security.

With support from recent grants, we are expanding our mushroom operations to include an on-site inoculation chamber, increased fruiting chamber capacity, and a robust line of value-added products such as dehydrated mushrooms, seasonings, and spice blends.

Position Overview
The Mushroom Production & Value-Added Products Manager will oversee all day-to-day operations of Charm City Caps, including production in the fruiting and inoculation chambers, value-added product development, and sales/marketing efforts. This role will supervise stewards, interns, and volunteers; ensure quality control in production; and help position Charm City Caps for substantial growth in local markets.

Key Responsibilities

Value-Added Product Development

  • Lead R&D and production of value-added products including dehydrated mushrooms, mushroom powders, and spice blends.

  • Standardize recipes, develop SOPs, and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.

  • Coordinate product testing and feedback at farmers’ markets and community events

Mushroom Production & Processing

  • Oversee daily operations in the fruiting chamber to maintain consistent, high-quality yields.

  • Establish and manage the inoculation chamber to produce in-house mushroom grow bags, reducing costs and supporting scalability.

  • Monitor environmental conditions, inventory, and production schedules.

  • Train and supervise stewards, interns, and volunteers on safe and efficient mushroom production techniques.

Sales, Marketing & Distribution

  • Oversee farmers’ market operations, including product display, customer engagement, and sales tracking.

  • Develop and implement sales strategies for fresh and value-added mushroom products.

  • Manage outreach to retail outlets, secure wholesale accounts, and maintain customer relationships.

  • Collaborate with marketing consultants and contractors on promotional materials, social media, and the launch of a mushroom CSA.

Team & Volunteer Management

  • Recruit, train, and supervise stewards, interns, and volunteers.

  • Schedule and lead regular production team meetings.

Qualifications

  • Experience in mushroom cultivation, specialty crop production, or similar agricultural operations.

  • Familiarity with value-added food production and food safety protocols.

  • Proven ability to manage teams and coordinate multiple projects.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Marketing and sales experience, particularly in direct-to-consumer and farmers’ market settings, preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a dynamic, growing organization.

Position Details

  • Part-time role (20 hours/week).

  • Compensation: $30/hour, no benefits.

  • Work will be split between production facilities, farmers’ markets, and remote administrative tasks.

  • Contract runs from Sept/Oct 2025 to May 31, 2026

Marketing & Community Engagement Intern

About the Role:
We’re looking for a proactive, creative Marketing & Community Engagement Intern to help us grow Acres4Change and Charm City Caps’ reach, sales, and brand presence. This role blends hands-on sales activities with social media and digital storytelling—ideal for someone eager to learn both direct sales strategies and marketing in a mission-driven environment.

What You’ll Do – Marketing & Outreach (Charm City Caps):

  • Conduct market research to identify target customers, price points, and trends for fresh mushrooms and value-added mushroom products.

  • Identify, contact, and secure wholesale customers such as restaurants, caterers, specialty grocers, and co-ops.

  • Build relationships with retail customers through farmers markets, pop-ups, and community events.

  • Support outreach and follow-ups to maintain and grow customer accounts.

  • Assist with order tracking, delivery coordination, and sales reporting.

  • Help create promotional materials for in-person sales and wholesale distribution.

  • Support fundraising events and campaigns, including donor outreach, event marketing, and on-site assistance.

Social Media & Digital Marketing:

  • Design engaging social posts and reels using Canva.

  • Draft and schedule content for Instagram and Facebook.

  • Organize and maintain photo/video content from workshops, farm activities, and events.

  • Promote events, sales, and campaigns through flyers, email outreach, and online channels.

  • Contribute to storytelling projects that highlight our mission, impact, and customer community.

PART-TIME GRANT WRITER

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per month

What We Seek:

We are looking for a skilled and innovative Grant Writer to spearhead the organization’s fund-development efforts. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of grant writing experience specifically in racial justice, food justice, and sustainable agriculture. This position requires knowledge of and connections to local/regional foundations and government funding agencies. The position requires strong time management skills, creativity, attention to detail, and a commitment to the vision and mission of A4C.  The Grant Writer will join a diverse team of highly committed and driven individuals.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with the founder and Board of Directors to create a 3-year fund-development plan and prepare and submit monthly grant proposals.  Responsibilities include:

·      Researching industry trends, funding prospects, and funding trends

·      Writing high-quality grant proposals

·      Creating fund-development systems and procedures for the organization

·      Networking and outreach to potential donors

Qualifications/Competencies:

·       BA Degree in related field

·       Minimum of five years’ experience in Development

·       Excellent written communication skills

·       Demonstrated research, group process, and collaboration skills

·       Desire to be part of a start-up organization
