Celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day and a New Chapter for Acres4Change

On this Indigenous Peoples Day, we reflect on the history of the land we now own and honor the lives lost, displaced, and affected by centuries of colonialism. Today, we celebrate the resilience and strength of all oppressed people who continue to fight for justice and equality. At Acres4Change, this day holds special significance as we recognize the importance of land ownership and stewardship in the journey toward land and food sovereignty.

We are proud to announce a major milestone in our mission—the purchase of our first parcel of land and the establishment of the Sankofa Homestead Micro-farm Collective. This project represents a new beginning for underserved farmers and BIPOC communities seeking land security and opportunities for sustainable farming. The Sankofa Homestead will serve as a hub for regenerative agriculture, education, and community building, allowing Stewards to grow, learn, and reclaim a connection to the land.

As we celebrate this achievement, we remain committed to supporting historically marginalized farmers through our Stewardship Program, which provides hands-on training, mentorship, and pathways to land ownership. Together, we are building a future where the land is not just a resource, but a shared legacy that nurtures and sustains us all.

In the 20th Century. Black Farmers lost $326 Billion worth of land due to discrimination. In 1920, there were around 925,710 Black farmers compared to just 45,000 today.

Caw to Action Volunteer Day started with an educational activity at our host site Green Street Academy (GSA) and ended with a tour of our new site.

A big thank you to the amazing volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to clean out and turn the soil in the GSA hoop house.

Volunteers from Blue Ridge Risk Partners, Baltimore Ravens, United Way Foundation, and Elevance Health Inc. helped out with trash cleanup, oyster mushroom inoculations in the woods, and sanitizing the Charm City Caps grow room. Thank you for your hard work!
