Jennifer “Jen” West has been gardening with her grandmother since she was a youth. They planted herbs, vegetables, and flowers and because of this experience Jen has had her own backyard garden for the last 8 years. During her childhood, her immediate family lived on a small farm in Baltimore County. In the early 90's, the barn and some of their crops were set on fire and her family ended up moving into the city. Ever since, Jen has dreamed of returning to the "slow life", growing food, growing herbs, and being self- sustainable. Now, as a community herbalist, the desire just grows deeper. The beauty of the Stewardship Program is that it is a rich learning community with each Steward bringing unique skills and experiences to the group. The Stewards are currently attending Jen’s “Awakening the Roots - Intro to Herbalism” course. Jen aspires to become a landowner to create a respite for weary women to come and rejuvenate through rest. There would be a garden of fresh food, herbs, and maybe a few animals as well as an outdoor teaching space for children and families to learn the foundations of gardening, herbalism, nutrition, and self-sustainability.
